According to the New Testament the members of a Church have a lot of responsibilities, to their Pastors, and other leaders. We find in 1 Thessalonian 5:12-13 and we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, 13 and to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. Be at peace among yourselves. One responsibility of the church members to their Pastor and leaders is to get to know them. The Thessalonian believers were to appreciate those that diligently labored among them, thanking the Lord for their willingness to expend themselves physically and mentally for the benefit of the flock. Paul refers to the leaders as those who have charge over you. There is a certain God given authority that leaders have in order to preside over, to lead, to direct, to protect, and to care for God’s flock. Leaders are those who give instruction; they admonish, warn, or correct those in error. For this faithful soul care they should be appreciated.
Another responsibility of Church members is to respect and admire their Pastors, helpers and leaders of their Church. Live in peace with one another, the ministry is a high and holy work and believers are here exhorted to place proper value on their leaders esteem them for their work’s sake. For example, regarding Epaphroditus, the Apostle Paul instructed the Philippians believers to, Philippians 2:29 receive him in the Lord with all joy, and hold men like him in high regard.
Another responsibility is that of obedience, they need to listen to and obey their Leaders and helpers. It speaks of an obedience that is the result of confidence they have began to feel about their Leaders and helpers ability to lead and help them. Leaders which are your Pastors or Bible study Leaders, they have to follow God’s perfect word when leading their Church or Bible study leaders the people from your Church. The Pastor and Leaders are accountable to God for how they lead His sheep. Pastors and Leaders should share their love of God and deep feelings of appreciation and love for Jesus Christ for taking their punishment for their sins, and all He did for breaking the barrier between them and God. Jesus also sent the Holy Spirit to His disciples as He promised, to help them lead lives more like Him. John 14:15-17 15 If you love me, you will obey my commandments. 16 I will ask the Father, and he will give you another helper who will be with you forever.17 That helper is the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it doesn’t see or know him. You know him, because he lives with you and will be in you.
Another important responsibility to submit to their Pastor and leaders Hebrews 13:17. Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you. To keep watch means to keep oneself awake. It implies that leaders are watching and guarding at all times. Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. Church leaders need to be aware of the subtle errors that sneak into the church so they can warn God’s people of potential danger. This type of watchfulness demands tireless effort. The church body is to submit to leadership for their own spiritual welfare.
Another important responsibility of the Church is t0 support their leaders. The apostle Paul makes it clear, 1 Timothy 5:17-18 Let the leaders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and doctrine. 18 For the Scripture says, you shall not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain, The laborer is worthy of his wages. When a Church does not adequately care for the material needs of the Pastor and his family his freedom to minister most effectively is hindered. 1 Corinthians 9:14 Even so the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should live from the gospel. That is why the Church members need to give tithes or offerings a percentage of their earnings. Besides Paying the Pastor, the Church needs funds to pay monthly and yearly bills. Just like a physical Church Kathy and I have bills to pay, many followers and new believers have donated to our PayPal account. We Pray God will bless everyone who comes to our blog. Amen
